REGISTRATION
Q: Where do I register for Sessions?
A: This question can be interpreted two ways. How do I start the process of registering? And how do I complete the registration process when I get to Oklahoma in July? First, the Registration process begins by completing the On-Line Registration Form on the Sessions 2008 web site (or by printing or downloading the PDF Form for a paper version). You can pay your bill with a check or by credit card. The discounted Early Bird Fee expires on May 1st, so please register early.
Second, Sessions 2008 is being hosted by First Christian Church (“FCC”) at 201 E Second Street in Edmond, OK 73034 (in the Greater Oklahoma City area). There will be a manned Registration Table in the Foyer/Lobby area at the church to formally register on site. Please note that the Registration Table will not handle “check in” for the dormitory (See Housing FAQ’s) nor for the motels.
Q: Will there be a Registration Packet? Will it be sent to me before the event?
A: YES, there will be a Registration Packet with a Program Book and additional information about specific events, Workshops, etc. You will receive the Registration Packet when you arrive in Oklahoma and register at FCC.
Q: Tours? What are these Tour Options on the Registration Form?
A: Looking at past Sessions events, the Planning Committee concluded that the event was too packed with little opportunity to enjoy the culture of the area. For Sessions 2008, your registration fee includes a ticket and transportation to one of three museums:
To visit the museum web site, click on the names below:
Oklahoma City National Memorial (Murrah Federal Building)
National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum
Oklahoma City Museum of Art
Q: I’ve registered. How do I change or revise my Registration?
A: If you wish to revise your registration (Golf Outing, Meal Ticket, Saturday Venue, Roommate selection, etc.), please call the Office of Disciple Men (1-317-713-2649).
Q: Is there a Refund Policy?
A: Refunds will be handled on a case-by-case basis through the Office of Disciple Men (Call 1-317-713-2649).
HOUSING
Q: How do I “check in” at the dorm (University of Central Oklahoma’s Central Plaza)?
A: There is a central Check-In area at the Central Plaza (dorm). They will have a list of Disciple men coming to the dorm.
Q: What if I arrive late at night at the dorm?
A: Central Plaza’s check in area is manned 24 hours a day (you can then register for Sessions at First Christian Church the next day – See Registration FAQs).
Q: Who is making Room Assignments for the dorm?
A: Central Plaza’s staff will be given a list of men staying at the dorm.
- If you requested a single room, the staff will assign you the next available room.
- If NO roommate was requested when you completed the registration form for a double occupancy room, the staff will assign you to the next available room (2 men per room).
- If a specific Roommate was identified on the Registration form (by you and the Roommate), then the Central Plaza staff will accommodate appropriately.
Q: Is there a “check-out” process at the dorm?
A: YES, you will need to check out of the dorm like you would from a motel (except the lodging was pre-paid). Some details are still being worked for luggage storage during Sunday’s worship service. Additional details will be announced during Sessions.
Q: Is there a replacement fee for lost dorm room keys?
A: YES, and that policy is controlled by the university. Ask for details during “check-in.”
Q: What are the Sessions 2008 Motels? Is there a discounted rate?
A: There are three motels close to I-35 (Exit 141), from which transportation will provided to First Christian Church for Sessions events:
Holiday Inn Express
3840 E 2nd St
Edmond, OK 73034
1-405-844-3700 (Front Desk)
1-888-465-4329
Daily Rate: $109.00 per room (Double, Queen, King), $119.00 King Executive
Fairfield Inns & Suites
301 Meline Dr (Off of E 2nd St)

Daily Rate: $99.00 per room
Best Western Suites
2700 E 2nd St
Edmond, OK 73034
1-405-216-0300 (Front Desk)
Daily Rate: $72.00 per room
Although the names are linked to the motels’ web sites, it would be best to call them directly to make reservations. ASK FOR THE SESSIONS 2008 SPECIAL (DAILY) RATE, which should be valid until June 1 (after the cutoff date, you can still ask for the rate, but rooms may be available only at prevailing rates). You might also wish to check your personal discounted rate through AAA, et al, to compare rates before calling the motel of choice.
Q: Do I have to use one of the three Sessions motels or the Central Plaza dorm?
A: NO, you may choose any lodging option you may wish. Other motels are in the vicinity, and we suggest that you drive or walk to one of the Sessions approved motels to pick up our local transportation to the church.
Q: Are there any local parks or campsites available for RVers?
A: YES, there are campsites available at Arcadia Park, East of I-35 (Exit 141) on Highway 77.
Q: Are there any local military bases with hospitality rooms available?
A: Not that we are aware of. The closest military facility would be Tinker AFB, approximately 30 miles away. You are welcome to investigate this option yourself.
TRANSPORTATION
Q: Will there be shuttles to/from the airport?
A: YES, shuttle bus service will be available from Will Rogers World Airport (OKC) to the Sessions 2008 locations. The Local Arrangements Committee is planning to set up a Welcome Table at the (one and only) Baggage Claim area of OKC, and run Shuttle Service on Wednesday, Thursday, and Sunday to/from the airport (if you have a special need outside these days, Local Arrangements will handle as needed).
NOTE: Local Arrangements is planning to contact all registrants (by e-mail or phone), before Sessions begin, to verify transportation needs.
Q: Will there be shuttle service between hotels and church?
A: YES, there will be a shuttle bus making a standard loop between First Christian Church (where most of the events will be held) to the Central Plaza dorm to the Sessions motels (Best Western, Fairfield Inn, and Holiday Inn Express) and back to FCC.
Q: Will there be shuttle service to the Mission Project (two Habitat House builds)?
A: YES. And lunch will be provided on site for all workers as well.
Q: Will there be shuttle service to the Saturday extra-curricular events?
A: YES. There will be two different shuttle schedules. One will be in the early afternoon to handle the Museum tours at the Oklahoma City National Memorial, National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum, and Oklahoma City Museum of Art. The late afternoon/evening schedule will handle the Bricktown events (Canal, restaurants, movie, RedHawks Baseball game, et al).
Q: HELP – I missed the last Shuttle Bus. What do I do NOW?
A: Your Registration Packet will have an Emergency Phone number to call Local Arrangement folks. We won’t leave anyone stranded.
MEALS
Q: How does the MEAL TICKET work?
A: This program was changed after our initial concept was established. Unfortunately, the revised design was incorrectly represented on the Registration Form (Our apologies for any confusion).
The meal ticket covers four meals (one price for all four meals): Thursday Dinner, Friday Lunch, Friday Dinner, and Saturday Lunch. The cost for a Meal Ticket is $50. The meals will be catered and served in the Dining Room area set-up at the church. The meals will be buffet style, and sufficient choices will also be available for those who are vegetarians.
Q: Why wasn’t the cost of the Meal Ticket included in the Registration Fee?
A: Following the tradition established at Sessions 2004, there is a separate Meal Ticket for Sessions 2008.
Q: Are there other options for meals outside of the Meal Ticket program?
A: YES. Edmond and Oklahoma City have lots of restaurants from which to choose, fast food to sit down. There are no other options within the church itself.
Q: But what about Breakfast?
A: A “free” Continental Breakfast is available at all of the Sessions Motels and at the Central Plaza (dorm).
Q: What about Saturday’s Dinner?
A: Saturday’s Dinner will be at your own expense. Plan to take the opportunity to go to Bricktown in Oklahoma City, which offers everything from fine dining to hamburgers. Ice Cream to Pizza. RedHawks Baseball to movies. Click on the Bricktown link to see what is available. Enjoy the evening. Transportation will be provided (Even if all you do is to go there for dinner and walk the canal).
MISSION PROJECT
Q: What is the Mission Project for Sessions 2008?
A: The local Habitat for Humanity group will have two houses ready for use to put up the walls. This project will accommodate any man who wishes to work on the Mission Project in place of going to the Work Shop activities.
Q: What tools should I bring?
A: Men are encouraged to bring their own tools for the Mission Project, but tools will be provided for those who wish to avoid issues with Airline travel restrictions.
MISCELLANEOUS
Q: Who are the beneficiaries of the Sessions Offering?
A: The offerings taken on Thursday and Friday will be divided equally, with one-third provided to the Star Supporter Fund, one-third to the Men's Ministries Endowment Fund, and one-third to the Disciple Mission Centers (All People's Christian Center, Inman Christian Mission Center, Kentucky Appalachian Ministry, and Yakama Christian Mission Center).
Please make your offering check payable to: General Conference of Disciple Men.
There will also be an offering box at the Sessions 2008 Registration Desk in the Rotunda for those unable to share their offerings during the Thursday or Friday services.
Q: Will there be Wi-Fi (Wireless Access to the Internet) available?
A: All the motels and the Central Plaza (dorm) have Internet access.
Q: Will there be a Chapel on site?
A: YES. We will have a special room for meditation, and chaplains will be available if someone needs one.
Q: Is there a local hospital? What if I need medical assistance?
A: The Edmond Medical Center (hospital) is less than a mile from FCC, Central Plaza dorm, and motels. In addition, the FCC nurses will staff the First Aid Station at the church to assist anyone who has a medical need.
Q: What time does the GOLF Outing begin?
A: The traditional Sessions Golf Outing will have a shotgun start beginning at 8 AM on Thursday, July 17. Transportation will be available for all golfers.
Q: Will there be a Message Board available? Contact phone number?
A: YES. Local Arrangements will have a Hospitality Room set up near the entrance to the church, including a Message Center / Bulletin Board. A local phone number also will be available, but not at the time of this writing.
Thanks. We look forward to seeing you in July.
